Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 July 2026

NasCam is built around a simple principle: your home security footage belongs to you and should never leave your control.

This Privacy Policy explains how NasCam (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use it. NasCam is an Apple TV (tvOS) application that lets you view your own Synology Surveillance Station cameras and recordings. It is published by VTO Software.

The short version: NasCam does not collect, store, sell, or transmit your personal data or video to us or to any third party. The app talks directly to your Synology NAS on your own network. There are no NasCam accounts, no analytics, and no cloud servers.

1. Information we do not collect

We designed NasCam so that we never receive your data. Specifically, NasCam does not collect or transmit to us:

NasCam contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs.

2. Information the app processes locally

To function, NasCam stores a small amount of configuration on your device only:

This information stays on your Apple TV. Deleting the app removes it.

3. How video and recordings are handled

Live video and recorded events are streamed directly from your Synology Surveillance Station to your Apple TV over your local network (or over any remote-access connection you have configured yourself, such as a VPN or Synology QuickConnect). NasCam does not route, copy, cache to any external server, or retain this footage. All recordings remain on your own NAS hardware under your control.

4. Network connections

The app communicates only with the Synology NAS you configure. It may load fonts or resources required by the operating system, but it does not phone home to VTO Software or to any analytics endpoint. If you enter an incorrect address, the app will simply be unable to connect.

5. Children’s privacy

NasCam is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

6. Data security

Because your data stays between your Apple TV and your NAS, security depends largely on your own network and Synology configuration. We recommend using strong DSM passwords, enabling two-factor authentication on your Synology account, and keeping DSM and Surveillance Station up to date. Credentials cached by NasCam are stored using the platform’s protected keychain.

7. Third-party services

NasCam is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect information related to your download and use of the app in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy. Your interaction with Synology Surveillance Station is governed by Synology’s own terms and privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices of Apple or Synology.

8. Your rights

Because we do not hold any of your personal data, there is nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on your behalf. You remain in full control of your data at all times: manage it directly on your Synology NAS, and remove the app’s local settings by deleting NasCam from your Apple TV.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
